For Rhino in a Shrinking World: an international anthology

My name is Harry Owen (, a poet living and writing in Grahamstown, in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.

Following an overwhelming international response from poets and writers – many of them highly acclaimed and eminent in their field – eager to support efforts to combat the sickening trade in rhino horn threatening the imminent extinction of this wonderful and ancient animal, we will publish later this year a superb volume of poetry about or inspired by rhinos and their habitat.  It will be called For Rhino in a Shrinking World: an international anthology.

ALL the proceeds from this anthology will be used to support

the fight against rhino poaching in Southern Africa.

Neither the writers and artists whose work appears in this book nor I as the editor will receive any fee or other remuneration: all contributions are made freely so that costs can be greatly reduced and the maximum amount becomes available to support the rhino.

Publishing expenses too will be minimised.  The publisher (The Poets Printery, East London, South Africa) has generously agreed to do everything ‘at cost’ whilst maintaining the highest production quality throughout.

Make no mistake about it, this will be a magnificent volume of poetry in every way, one that people will be proud to own.

And every cent it raises will, via the auspices of the Chipembere Rhino Foundation  (, be used to support and protect the embattled rhino.

But you do not have to be a writer to contribute. Of course there are some publication and production expenses to be met – and here we need your help:

For an initial print run of 1,000 copies we have to raise about R40,000 (approx £3,500 / $5,400), either from concerned private individuals or corporate sponsors who would like to support this worthiest of causes.

Please, can you help?  Will you?

I am asking for any amount, large or small, that you feel able to offer toward the funding of this fabulous collection (see below for details of how to contribute). All sponsors will, of course, be fully acknowledged in the published book.

So, if you can, please take one affordable step right now to help Save The Rhino. Together we can make the difference.

Thank you for caring.

The easiest way to become a sponsor is by direct bank transfer to the Chipembere Rhino Foundation, which will administer funding:
